T-Ender City MotM: This wasn't really a match for outstanding individual performances but Will Morford stretched the defence with his pace, showed some great touches and stayed willing until the end.

grass trim rule

City marched on into the 1st Round proper of the FA Trophy with a hard fought victory over lower division Uxbridge, a last gasp strike from sub Alex Allard finally enough to kill off the resistance from the West London outfit. It was a good demonstration of some new found character and confidence from a City side now proudly boasting a nine game unbeaten run after our early season woes - after seeing Uxbridge force themsleves back into the match during the second half we didn't lose our bottle or fold. The Trophy run has really lifted the club and provided some much needed prize money, and the delight of the players was clear with some well earned celebrations on a pitch where we haven't had much previous cause to party. Everyone at City will now hope for a kind draw out of the hat in the next round - hoping for a tie to raise the club's profile and help ease our income worries.

T-Ender Verdict

You can't pretend this was a vintage City performance, but there were a lot of good things to take from this match. In the first half we dominated the game and possession in a way we have struggled to do in recent months, and whilst we struggled to make clear chances or find the goal we deserved the visiting defence was rocking at times. Later on we lost the intiative a little and at times looked in danger of losing our way, and with it the tie. Perhaps the most pleasing thing was that we saw through that spell with the players keeping their heads and working through the bad spell without caving in. The late winner may have been a little cruel on Uxbridge, but we just deserved the win and the most pleasing thing about this game is a second 'home' win - and that our Trophy run continues into the 1st Round proper with the possibility of a big Blue Square Premier side visiting to provide a much needed boost to our coffers.
