Gloucester Women's Football - A Short History

The Ladies side first formed as City of Gloucester Ladies in the summer of 1997 and having entered Division 2 of the South-West Women's League they won their first competitive fixture against Bath City reserves with the Gloucester team recording a 9-1 win, Anna Grange becoming the first goalscorer.

The team then moved to the newly formed Gloucestershire Womens County League in 1998 and after a difficult first season the club changed it's name to Gloucester City Ladies for the 1999/2000 season. During this season the side started a girls team at under-14s level and began trying to forge closer links with Gloucester City AFC. This began to reap dividends and the following season the Ladies side played their first fixture at Meadow Park.

By 2002/3 season the club's fledgling youth sides had grown and were starting to reap dividends in the first team with players gaining recognition at County level. The side finished second in the County League and won promotion to the South West Womens Football League. The side went on to won back-to-back promotions as in 2003/4 another runners-up spot in the SWWFL Division One North secured a place in the SWWFL Premier Division.
